Quick Answer

Build a crystal plan backwards from the first fight where your march must be useful. Improve income early where it will repay its cost, buy the prerequisites that unlock your chosen combat path, and stop chasing technology you cannot finish before it matters.

“Every speedup into the mine for ten days” is not a research plan. The correct order depends on your starting resources, story rules, available quests, spending and the timing of your kingdom's objectives.

Separate the Three Bottlenecks

The Crystal Mine produces crystals, the Crystal Research Center unlocks and performs the technology, and the technology tree consumes crystals along a dependency path. Income, building levels and research time are different constraints. More speedups will not solve a shortage of crystals or an unmet prerequisite.

The tree has changed across updates, including named technology effects and dependencies. The change history is evidence of that evolution, not a complete current shopping list.

Research in Phases

Phase Main question Sensible action
Opening Which income/discount improvements repay before fighting? Compare mine output, accessible economic technology and quest returns
Before a contested objective What combat unlock can I realistically finish? Follow its prerequisites and reserve the full crystal cost
Active fighting Which next node improves the march I am using? Prioritise applicable troop stats, capacity or other relevant unlocks
Late season What can I complete before rewards or closure? Compare remaining combat use with attainable Season Coin objectives

Names such as Treaties, Cultural Exchange and Plunder appear in published research routes. Read their current tooltips and prerequisites rather than blindly copying an old node order. A change to a discount or quest reward can change the break-even point of the entire route.

Free-Player Plan

Choose the one or two marches you can actually equip and heal. Follow the accessible economic route where its return arrives in time, complete available crystal-bearing quests and budget for a realistic combat endpoint. Do not spend your last reserves halfway down an extra-march route that remains out of reach when fighting starts.

Treat bastion/Kahar and Trial of Kau Karuak opportunities as part of the season's income plan where they are available. Check the task before using a limited item or claiming a reward. Completing the action before accepting the relevant task can waste an opportunity even though you did the same activity.

Low-Spend Plan

Start with the free-player route and add the specific income supplied by a purchase. Record when it arrives. A delayed supply does not fund a node you need today, and a large one-off purchase does not make every permanent-looking technology a good buy in a temporary season.

Compare the amount needed to finish the chosen combat endpoint with the cost of the package. If the package does not reach a useful next endpoint, the advertised crystal total can be less valuable than it appears.

A Worked Break-Even Method

If an upgrade costs C crystals and adds D crystals per day, a simple payback estimate is C ÷ D days. For an illustrative upgrade costing 120,000 and adding 20,000 daily, that is six days before considering prerequisites or research time. Those are example inputs, not game constants.

If your decisive fight is tomorrow, that upgrade does not repay in time for the fight. If you have several weeks, the calculation looks different. Add any necessary prerequisite costs and compare the same period for both options.

Keep One Versioned Plan

Use a crystal planner only after confirming that its tree matches your season. Record current nodes, discounts and the intended endpoint. This guide does not publish an exact costed route where the current node dataset cannot be independently confirmed; the decision method prevents an old route from quietly becoming today's spending instruction.

Do normal Academy research and crystal technology replace each other?

No. Your permanent account development still matters. Crystal technology is an additional seasonal system, not a shortcut around the troop and Academy prerequisites.
