Commanders: Commander directory · Pairing decisions · Equipment progression

Quick Answer

Bjorn Ironside is an epic infantry commander best understood as an early field partner for Sun Tzu. Bjorn primary followed by Sun Tzu secondary gives the pairing a sensible sequence: Bjorn applies his skill-damage vulnerability before Sun Tzu's active arrives.

Build the pair for early infantry usefulness, then keep universal legendary sculptures for a separate plan. An epic pairing can be good value without being a late-season answer to fully developed legendary marches.

Why Bjorn Leads Sun Tzu

Fearless Fighter damages a target and increases the skill damage it takes. Expertise extends the vulnerability to nearby targets. The rest of his kit includes infantry stats, a normal-attack proc and a city-attack skill. The skill reference explains why the first and expertise matter more to this field pairing than the Conquering label.

Lead with Bjorn when the purpose is to place that vulnerability before Sun Tzu's damage. Then use infantry, put your useful equipment on Bjorn, and avoid spending a second set of gear on the secondary expecting it to apply.

Skill Progression

Max the active skill first. Continue toward expertise with epic sculptures if this is the march you are actually fielding. The city-attack skill is not the reason to use him in the field, but completing all four skills is how expertise becomes available.

Do not buy a civilisation change purely to obtain a different starting commander if you already have a sensible development route. The starting commander is only one part of the civilisation decision; see civilisation choices.

Talents and Gear

Bjorn has Infantry, Conquering and Skill trees. For field use, focus on Skill and Infantry rather than the city-attack branch. Rage generation helps the two active skills cycle; relevant infantry durability helps the march stay in contact. This is a role route, not a verified complete allocation.

Start with affordable infantry equipment. Gatekeeper's Shield and other troop-specific early pieces can be useful while the rest of the set develops. Do not sacrifice an entire early equipment plan to forge one impressive legendary item.

Using the Pair in KvK1

Follow the allied group, hit what it is already pressuring and choose an angle that gives Sun Tzu useful area coverage. Avoid wandering into open space to duel an account with much stronger technology. Your job is to add affordable damage while the army holds a position.

If you are short of resources for healing, field fewer competent marches. A second underdeveloped army can create more severely wounded troops without adding enough useful pressure. Keep training and hospital planning separate: the aim is to manage risk, not to keep your entire troop inventory below hospital capacity.

When to Replace Him

Replace the pairing when the next commander project is ready to fight. Do not dismantle a usable early march just because you unlocked a legendary at poor skill levels. Keep Bjorn available for the tasks where he still helps, but stop treating every extra level as a priority once he no longer leads your main march.

Can Sun Tzu lead instead?

Yes, a developed Sun Tzu can lead a practical early march. Bjorn first is the deliberate sequencing choice for his vulnerability; commander level, capacity and available talents can still affect the immediate decision.
