Quick Answer

China is a useful starting choice because its building-speed bonus supports the early city climb and epic Sun Tzu gives you a clear commander project. Later, choose for the work your account actually does: training, sustained field fighting, research or a specialised rally role.

There is no permanent best civilization for every account. A bonus you use all week can be worth more than a stronger-looking bonus attached to a job you never perform.

Compare the Job, Then the Civilization

Account job Candidates to compare Why they deserve a look Main trade-off
New city progression China Building speed and a useful starting epic The construction advantage becomes less relevant as major builds finish
Training and regular PvE Germany Training speed and AP recovery; cavalry attack if relevant AP recovery helps only when you spend AP instead of sitting capped
Sustained field fighting France Troop health and hospital healing speed Healing speed does not reduce the resources charged per wounded troop
A large research push Korea Research speed Compare the time saved with the cost of switching and switching back
Infantry field march Rome or Greece, with France as a sustain comparison Infantry defence/movement or infantry health; France supports repeated fighting Greece's rally bonus is not an open-field damage bonus
Cavalry field march Germany or Byzantium Training/AP value or cavalry health and hospital capacity More hospital space is not lower healing cost
Archer skill-damage march Ottoman, with France as a sustain comparison Archer health, movement and active skill damage A skill bonus does not automatically improve smite, combo or normal damage
Cavalry rally lead Arabia Cavalry and rally-oriented bonuses The account must actually lead a suitable rally
Archer rally lead Egypt Archer and rally-oriented bonuses A field-only account gets less use from the rally component
Infantry rally lead Greece Infantry health and rally-oriented bonuses Commander kit and current rally matchup still decide the choice
Gathering-focused farm Japan Gathering speed across resource types The farm still needs active queues, load and useful gathering skills

The civilization reference describes the established bonuses; dedicated Egypt and Greece guides cover their rally roles. The recommendations above are account-role comparisons, not measured rankings.

Start with a Commander You Can Use

China's Sun Tzu is an accessible early infantry damage project. Britain starts with epic Boudica, France with epic Joan and Japan with Kusunoki. Those commanders have different jobs; a starting commander is not proof that all the civilization's bonuses support that troop type.

Do not restart an established character just to get a different starting package. You can obtain commanders through their available routes and change civilization later. The civilization directory lists the bonuses and starting commanders together.

When Is a Switch Worth It?

Name the activity you will perform after switching and how long you will keep doing it. “KvK starts soon” is less useful than “I will field-fight several evenings each week and healing timers are my bottleneck.” The latter gives you a reason to compare France with your current civilization.

For research, compare the actual remaining project rather than treating a 3% research-speed bonus as 3% off every displayed timer. Speed bonuses act on the underlying rate, so the time saved depends on the bonuses you already have. Include the cost of returning to your preferred fighting civilization if you plan to switch back.

For training, keep the buildings working. A training-speed bonus cannot recover the hours a finished batch spends uncollected. For AP recovery, spend naturally regenerating AP before it caps; saved bottles are a different budget.

Match the Damage Type

Do not equip a civilization decision from an old skill-damage march onto a new smite march without checking it. Sun Tzu Prime, Bai Qi and Liu Che make that distinction relevant to infantry accounts. Read each bonus's scope rather than using “damage” as though it were one stat.

The same applies to rally bonuses. Joining a rally does not mean your personal civilization becomes the rally leader's entire build. Follow your alliance's actual role assignment before paying to specialise.

FAQ

Is France a good cavalry civilization?

It can suit a cavalry field fighter because its troop-health and healing benefits are not restricted to infantry. Compare sustained fighting value with Germany or Byzantium on your account.

Is Byzantium an infantry civilization?

Its troop-specific bonus is cavalry health. Hospital capacity can benefit the account more broadly, but that does not turn it into an infantry-stat choice.

Should I change as soon as I receive an item?

Only if the new bonuses solve a current need. Keeping the item until your role is clear is a valid choice. See how to change civilization.
