Quick Answer

William Wallace is a legendary infantry smite commander. An established Wallace/Liu Che march is the obvious place to evaluate him: Wallace can lead with the Smite tree while Liu Che supplies his own smite and normal-attack interactions from secondary.

That is a roster option, not an instruction to start Wallace ahead of every newer infantry commander. Existing investment is the difference between improving a march and buying one from scratch.

What His Kit Rewards

His active deals smite damage to a target, with additional damage against a limited number of troops attacking his march. His passives add field infantry stats and normal/smite benefits. Expertise provides a slow-cleansing/shield interaction. The skill descriptions also make clear that smite is affected by normal-damage bonuses rather than ordinary skill-damage bonuses.

Do not translate “additional damage to attackers” into “get surrounded deliberately.” More enemies attacking you usually means more incoming damage, and the march still needs an escape route. Evaluate the extra pressure inside fights you would sensibly take anyway.

Partners and Position

Partner Practical use Important limitation
Liu Che secondary Field infantry with complementary damage mechanics Compare the full pair, including expertise and equipment
An existing infantry secondary A bridge while completing a roster A skill-damage-only bonus may not improve Wallace's main damage
A rally specialist A specialised leadership assignment Rally eligibility, equipment and kingdom coordination matter beyond the commander name

Do not turn a published rally pairing into permission to lead your alliance's expensive attacks. A rally lead is an account-level role. Ask leadership what pair and equipment standard the kingdom uses before spending toward it.

Skills and Talent Direction

Some players use 5515 as a budget target. Understand why that prioritises particular skills, and account for the practical cost of reaching the distribution. Do not describe the exact result as guaranteed or pretend a partial build is equivalent to expertise.

His trees are Infantry, Versatility and Smite. When he leads a smite pair, Smite and relevant Infantry talents are the logical direction. As secondary, his own talent choices do not apply. No untested full allocation is presented here.

Equipment and the Next Upgrade

Use infantry gear and examine what each accessory or inscription actually modifies. If the pair's main work is smite, a premium skill-damage bonus may be a poor use of scarce materials. An affordable upgrade to a weak armour slot can be more useful than buying an expensive accessory whose condition rarely helps.

If Wallace and Liu Che are already developed, compare improving their equipment with starting a replacement primary. The comparison should include the resources needed to make the replacement ready, not just its best possible finished report.

Should I abandon Wallace because a newer infantry commander exists?

No. First establish whether the current march is failing its job and what a replacement would cost. A functional completed pair can remain useful while you save for a deliberate next investment.
