Quick Answer
There are four: Random (500 gems, drops you anywhere in the kingdom), Territorial (750 gems, moves you into your alliance's territory — this is the one people call the "alliance teleport"), Targeted / Advanced (~1,500 gems, you pick the exact tile), and the Beginner's Teleport (cross-kingdom, City Hall under 8). If a teleport is failing, it is almost always an occupied destination tile, no alliance territory in range, marches still out, or an incoming attack. Recall everything, pick a genuinely empty tile, and try again.
Overview
Teleporting is one of those systems that works perfectly until the one moment you urgently need it, at which point it refuses and you find out why. Knowing the failure conditions in advance is worth more than knowing the mechanics.
The Three Types
Random Teleport (~500 gems)
Drops your city at a random location in the kingdom. Cheapest, widely available, and mostly useful for escaping a bad neighbourhood when you do not care where you land.
Do not use one during a war expecting safety — random can land you somewhere worse.
Territorial Teleport (~750 gems)
Moves your city into your alliance's territory. This is what most people mean by "alliance teleport", and it is the standard tool for a new member joining an alliance. Cheap, and the one that fails most often — see below.
Targeted / Advanced Teleport (~1,500 gems)
Lets you choose the exact tile. The most expensive and the one worth keeping in reserve, because it is what you need to position precisely inside alliance territory, reposition before a KvK push, or get out of a targeted attack.
Sources: event rewards, shops, the alliance shop, and packs. Buy one from the alliance shop when credits allow rather than paying a premium in a panic.
Beginner's Teleport (cross-kingdom)
The only teleport that moves you to a different kingdom. Available while your City Hall is under 8 and within roughly 10 days of creating the account — see the migration guide. Once it expires, changing kingdoms costs passport pages instead.
Why You Cannot Teleport
Working through these in order fixes almost every case:
1. The destination tile is occupied. Cities need clear space. Zoom in — a tile that looks empty may have a resource node, a barbarian camp or a building on it. Pick genuinely open ground.
2. You are outside your alliance's territory range. Alliance teleport requires your alliance to actually hold territory nearby, and enough space in it. If your alliance has no flags planted, there is nothing to teleport to.
3. Your marches are out. Recall everything. Gathering marches and rally participation both block a move.
4. Your city is under attack or a march is incoming. You cannot teleport out of an incoming attack — that would make the whole combat system pointless.
5. You do not have the right item. Random, Territorial, Targeted and Beginner's teleports are four separate items. Having one does not let you do the others — and a Territorial Teleport cannot place you on a specific tile.
6. The area is restricted. Some zones — around passes, certain KvK regions, and areas held by other alliances — restrict teleporting in.
Teleporting Into Alliance Territory
The standard sequence for a new alliance member:
- Join the alliance and wait for acceptance.
- Recall all marches.
- Use a Territorial Teleport, or a Targeted Teleport aimed at open ground inside the territory if you need a specific spot.
- If it fails, ask an officer to plant a flag with space nearby, or pick a different open tile.
If your alliance is not holding territory at all, that is a bigger problem than the teleport — see the alliance guide for what a functioning alliance looks like.
When to Teleport
- Joining a new alliance — immediately, so you get territory bonuses and safe gathering.
- Before a KvK push — position with the alliance, not behind it.
- Escaping a hostile neighbour — but consider whether the real fix is a better alliance.
- Consolidating with friends for mutual defence and faster reinforcement.
Do not teleport into contested territory alone during a war. You will be the closest target.
FAQ
Why can't I teleport in Rise of Kingdoms?
Usually an occupied destination tile, marches still out, an incoming attack, or trying to alliance-teleport outside your alliance's territory range.
How do I teleport to my alliance?
Use a Territorial Teleport (~750 gems) after joining, with all marches recalled. If you need an exact position rather than "somewhere in territory", use a Targeted Teleport instead.
What is a targeted teleport?
A teleport that lets you pick the exact destination tile, rather than dropping you randomly. It is the most useful of the three.
Where do I get teleports?
Events, shops, packs and the alliance shop. Keep a targeted teleport in reserve rather than buying under pressure.
Can I teleport while under attack?
No. Recall your marches and deal with the attack, or shelter.
Does teleporting cost anything else?
Only the item. Your city, troops, commanders and buildings all move with you unchanged.
Key Takeaways
- Four types: Random (500), Territorial (750), Targeted (~1,500) and Beginner's (cross-kingdom, CH under 8).
- Most failures are an occupied tile, marches out, or no alliance territory nearby.
- Keep a targeted teleport in reserve; buy from the alliance shop, not in a panic.
- You cannot teleport out of an incoming attack.
- Teleport into territory as soon as you join an alliance.
