Quick Answer
There is no single "best kingdom" — there is a best kingdom for when you are starting. For a new account, that is almost always the newest kingdom available, because everyone in it is the same age as you. Joining a two-year-old kingdom as a fresh governor means being farmed by accounts a hundred times your size. And if you pick wrong, it is fixable: migration exists, and it is cheap while your account is small.
Kingdom Age Is the Whole Decision
Everything else is noise compared with this.
A new kingdom means every account started at the same time. The power curve around you matches yours, the alliances are forming rather than entrenched, and you will go through your first KvK with people at your level. This is the correct choice for essentially every new player.
An old kingdom means established alliances, mature accounts with T5 troops and years of research, and a settled political order. You will be a rounding error in it. The one legitimate reason to join one is that friends are already there — and even then, understand what you are accepting.
How to Check a Kingdom Is Alive
If you have a choice, or you are considering migrating, look for:
- Active kingdom chat. Not messages from last week — messages from the last hour.
- Alliances with territory. Flags on the map mean organised alliances. An empty map means a dead kingdom. See alliance territory.
- Recruiting alliances. A kingdom where alliances are actively recruiting is a kingdom with people in it.
- Scheduled events happening. Ask whether the kingdom fields teams for Ark of Osiris.
You cannot see much of this before joining, which is why new kingdoms are the safe default — nobody has had time to abandon them yet.
What About "Best Kingdom" Lists?
Searches for the best kingdom, best country or best empire in Rise of Kingdoms usually surface one of two things, and neither is what you want:
- Confusion with civilizations. If you meant which nation to play as — Rome, China, Germany and so on — that is a different question with a real answer: see best civilization.
- Power rankings. Which kingdoms top the leaderboards is irrelevant to you. A top-ranked kingdom is a harder place to be a new player, not a better one.
Your Alliance Matters More Than Your Kingdom
Worth being blunt: the alliance you join affects your experience far more than the kingdom does. A good alliance in an average kingdom beats a bad alliance in a famous one, every time.
An active alliance gives you construction help worth hours a day, safe gathering, protection and a group that shows up for events — see the alliance guide. Get that right and the kingdom number stops mattering.
If You Picked Badly
You are not stuck.
- Under City Hall 8 and within about 10 days of starting? Use the free Beginner's Teleport to move kingdoms. This is the cheap window and it closes fast.
- Past that? Passport pages, and the cost scales with your power — 1 page under 10M, rising steeply. Move before you grow, because migration only gets more expensive.

FAQ
What is the best kingdom to join in Rise of Kingdoms?
The newest one available, for a new account. Everyone there is your age, which is worth more than any other factor.
Should I join a kingdom where my friends play?
If they are established and you are new, understand you will be far behind. It can still be the right call — an active alliance beats a fresh start — but go in with clear eyes.
Can I change kingdoms later?
Yes. Free while under City Hall 8 and within roughly ten days of creating the account; passport pages after that, priced by your power.
What is the best country in Rise of Kingdoms?
That is the civilization question, not the kingdom question — see best civilization.
Does kingdom power ranking matter when choosing?
Not for a new player. A top-ranked kingdom is a harder place to start, not a better one.
